1. Whale Watching Capital of the World

Hervey Bay is recognised as one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world, with humpback whales stopping to rest and play in the calm waters between Hervey Bay and K'gari. From June to November, thousands of humpback whales migrate through the region. Peak season runs from mid-July to late October, when encounters are often longer, more interactive and more frequent. Guests commonly witness breaching, tail slapping, spy hopping and even curious whales approaching vessels, creating a truly memorable experience. Hervey Bay is also recognised as a Whale Heritage Site, reflecting both the quality of the experience and the region's commitment to conservation. It is the Fraser Coast's signature experience.

2. Visit K'gari (Fraser Island)
Take a day trip or overnight stay to the World Heritage-listed K'gari. Explore Lake McKenzie, 75 Mile Beach, Eli Creek, rainforests, dingoes, shipwrecks and crystal-clear freshwater creeks. A true bucket-list experience and one of Australia's most remarkable natural destinations.

3. Walk the Esplanade & Urangan Pier

Sunrise and sunset walks here are particularly special.

4. Fishing Charters in Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is renowned as one of Australia's premier fishing destinations, thanks to its unique location between the calm waters of the bay, the Great Sandy Strait, K'gari and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Depending on the season and location, you may target prized species such as coral trout, red emperor, tuna, mackerel, cobia, barramundi, flathead, queenfish, trevally and threadfin salmon.

Charter operators provide all equipment, bait and local knowledge, taking guests to productive reefs, sand flats, estuaries and offshore fishing grounds. Many charters also include fish cleaning services, allowing you to enjoy the freshest possible seafood after your day on the water.
